I've got a 6" Canti from Xebec/Kaiyodo, and while its a gorgeous figure, the joints at the legs and feet are terrible - once you 'snap' them, they're just loose hinges - there's not support there at all. My thought was a doll stand maybe, but I've little idea about such things, and figured I'd ask people before I go to the Doll Hospital and get laughed at. Bonus Question: If you know a good place in New York City for me to get said figure stand, you'll get extra credit.

Teen Titans animated figures. The 3", 5", and 1.5" lines.
I'm going to get into the Doctor Who figures. Someday.
I've got most of the original Pokemon battle figures and trainers that were made... and a set still on card.

Hey! I'm getting completely burried in work. It seems like the more we grow, the more we try and bring to our readers. The more we do that, the more companies want a piece of us! It's gotten a little out of control so I'm looking to rectify the situation. Here are some positions I need to fill asap.

(2) Reviewers in the NY/NJ/Philadelphia Area. Must have a decent digital camera and the minimum skills to use it (ie; non-blurry, non-washed out, fairly well lit pictures) Must also have some writing skills. I'm not expecting someone to be brilliant right off the bat but I at least need to see some complete thoughts and the will to write more than 10 sentences. On the average, we run anywhere from 15 to 50 pictures of a toy in a review, so you'll be expected to at least meet the minimum. Ability to edit your pics for size and kb is a big plus but not entirely required. You need to live within 1 1/2 hours of me (in Central NJ) as I'll need to meet up and lay review material on you. PLEASE NOTE: If you do not have the time to at least do one review a week, do NOT apply. Please send one writing sample (you can just grab a toy and write about it if you have nothing..I don't need to see a lot) and three pictures of any toy along with some details about yourself, location, age and your interests and/ or specialties. email nomad@action-figure.com

(4) General helpers - This is a pretty loose position involving helping me with little tasks that can consume too much of our time when we could be reviewing more things and generally making the site run better. Tasks can be anything from emailing to sorting and compiling information. Trust me, it won't be brain surgery. You can live anywhere in the world to do this job so long as you can understand my Brooklyn english. It would help to have my helpers living in either the UK and/or the US, as then we can thank you for your time with some good stuff in the mail. Drop an email with some details about yourself, location, age, interests and/ or specialties you may have and any skills you can brag about. email nomad@action-figure.com

OK.. I got the figure. I'm happy because it is an improvement over the original but it is also a step down at the same time. Weird huh?

Articulation 5 outta 5 :)
all the usual places, but now the neck joint is at the base of the skull with a 360 degree rotion and up and down function. The 4 fingers on each hand are movable .. so of course Capt has to give the one finger salute :) So the only let down to allthis posable are the usual stiff or way loose joints. But as I have heard a lil superglue and moving the joint back and forth adds tightness while keeping the glue from bonding.
Painting 5 out of 5
the leather boots look worn and used during battle, the detail in making sure you can see the capt's blue eyes and still see the whites in th them are like Whoa :) It looks like they had some poor child taking his or her time painting each chain link in his chain mail suit.

Body and sclupt.
3 out of 5
I know Iknow .. How can I down the Ol CApt man..
Well it seems they are using I assume PVS(sp) plastic now instead of whatever plastic they used in the ML series before. So now the joints "BEND", and the figure is weirdy sticky where the paint is , if you hold it long. No my hands weren't sweaty..heeh. The sturdy poses you thought were gonna stay .. don't. So capt is a self diver unless you mount him to his display.
The sclupt it's self is awesome.. I was kinda sad I couldn't have cap wear his shield on his back.. I guess since he never did it in the ultimates they figured why have the figure do it ? lots of detail in the suit.. showing seem lines and fold while have it "stretch across the muscles on his stomach and legs.

So is this figure a must get.. heck yeah :)

What up ya'll. Heard DJ Monolith mentioning no one post so I figure this would be a good way to meet new folks like myself and also see what kind of figures most folks here like.

MY TOP 3 FIGURES OF THE LAST 4 MONTHS:

1. CRONEN from the Hellboy line by Mezco: These figures rock mega hard. Great sculpt, nice paint app and their likenesses to the film are fantastic. The also do not compromise articulation for look. They move pretty well. Cronen is very posable and can also hold his poses very well. His removsble mask to reveal the twisted sick face underneath is such a cool feature and is painted in an amazing fashion, conveying the horror within.

2. SILVER SURFER W HOWARD THE DUCK from Marvel Legends line by Toy Biz: This line of figures keep getting better. With thousands of characters to choose from this line has an almost inifinte potenial. I got Silver Surfer and he comes with a Howard the Duck figure. Never thought I would see one of these in a million years. The paint articulation and play factor are high with the Silver Surfer. Howard looks cool but does not move much.

3. MACE WINDU from Star Wars Clone Wars Animated line by Hasbro: I personally am sick of Star Wars. I had to admit that the Clone Wars Animated series is probably the best Star Wars thing since Empire. The figures are more like mini-HK vinyl toys but are still cool and cartoony looking. I got Mace Windu and he looks badass. Not very posable but he looks like his animated counterpart and its Samuel Jackson for goodness sakes. I still want a Jules from Pulp Fiction figure!

Of course I know what an action figure is... but what's your definition?

Is a poseable doll an action figure? (like a plush or rubber toy with bendable wires inside)

Is a non-posable toy an action figure? (like the Smurfs)

If it comes down to points of articulation, how many is the minimum?

I have my own answers, but i'd like to hear what the hardcore collectors have to say on this. Also, what are your pet peeves as a collector?

Personally i hate a figure that's been sculpted in a dynamic pose, then they cut it apart and give it joints despite the fact it only really stands or looks decent in it's default pose. The 'Onimusha' figures (from the game) really sucked that way.

After McFarlane redefined the Action figure industry and introduced figures that were sculpted almost to perfection there has been a onslaught of Action figures never before witnessed by the world (except Japan and China). I fell away from the fold because there were too many. My problem is I can't just buy one and if I can't just buy one then I have to buy 1000 because they are all so great. I have every Spawn criiter from series 1 til series 14 or so when I had to stop. My question is how the hell can I teach myself to just buy one every so often? I had to stop collecting action figures almost entirely because of room restraints (have over 1400 in my collection). I have since moved on to tin wind up robots, I have around 300 of them, but there is a bit of a pathetic market of new tin robots out there.

I'm just ranting, sorry.

It's nice to see a tribe out here for collectors of action figures and know that it's a more popular hobby than ever. Now there's tons of action figure toy books on the shelves and it feels good to know mine was one of the first.

Meijer... all mini-cons are $4. Good luck finding any others. If you do, you might find the jets for $10 (I got two Thundercracker's, $10 each.) They had also marked down Armada (orange) Unicron to $21.90, but have since marked him back up to $54 (same as Energon Unicron).

Target... mini-cons $5, Unicron now $21, if you can find him. No sign of any other Armada stuff.

Kay Bee still had ($40) Optimus Prime for $50, and Powerlinx RedAlert for $29. I didn't look any further. They're just too pricey, but I may go back to finish the collection.

Wal-Mart. We all love to hate this place, but they had almost all of the $10 size left, at $7 apiece. They had Unicron for $40. They also had Galvatron for $15 and Scavenger for $10, so you may have luck finding others. They also had a few two-set blister pack mini-cons, but I didnt catch the price.

KMart had nothing left, at all.

Of course, YMMV, but that's what I've seen locally. And, I realize I didnt check TRU, but if I set foot in TRU, my monthly budget for food would be gone before I even left the store.

The new Optimus however...<sigh> since when was Optimus a fucking Megazord? I mean, he looks like crap in his regular robot mode, and then you add all those other little vehicles and he's like, super optimus or whateverthefuck. That's so friggen stupid. Okay, it's one thing to have attachments to augment the basic robot (like fire convoy) but combining with other robots? That's just not something Optimus should do. It's bad enough the first wave are all able to combine and form bigger robots, but I just think Optimus should be a little more...untouchable. Like he should be a stand alone leader. He shouldn't need to combine with of bunch of other friggen robots to get the job done. He should COMMAND those bitches, not combine with them. Personally, I think they've taken a novelty too far.
